[Introduction]

In recent years, various types of mobile robots have been increasingly used in sectors such as manufacturing, logistics, healthcare, and dining. Creating a “Robot-Friendly Environment” is key to optimizing Return on Investment (ROI). Such an environment serves as a foundational platform that minimizes deployment challenges and ensures long-term operational reliability. Achieving this requires close collaboration between mobile robot users and vendors to align facility capabilities with technical requirements.

The Taiwan Automation Intelligence and Robotics Association (TAIROA) and the Autonomous Mobile Robot Alliance (AMRA) have collaborated to develop this guideline, TARS/AMRA-300, for stakeholders in mobile robot applications. Following these guidelines ensures that infrastructure effectively supports autonomous operations, transforming basic automation into a high-efficiency workspace.

Following the development process in AMRA, this guideline was formed by the experts in working group #4 (WG4), reviewed by the technical committee (TC), and approved by the board. In TAIROA, the standards committee reviewed the draft guideline before publication. The participants in the following list, sorted alphabetically, make great contributions to this guideline.

Please note: Certain illustrations within these guidelines have been generated using Gemini AI, based on specific inputs provided by subject matter experts.

[Scope]

This guideline provides a structured framework for mobile robot users to discuss relevant issues with mobile robot vendors when deploying mobile robots in human-made environments, excluding public roads. The relevant issues include the following items:

  • Checkpoints within the building space covering both physical and digital aspects
  • Designated work area and prohibited areas for mobile robots
  • General safety measures for human-robot interactions

Note: AMRA-300 addresses the key considerations between mobile robot users and mobile robot vendors. However, facility constructors and decorators may also refer to these items when planning and designing smart buildings. This guideline provides a structured framework to facilitate communication between mobile robot users and mobile robot vendors regarding mobile robots deployed in human-made environments, excluding public roads. Key considerations include:

  • Checking building space meets both physical and digital requirements
  • Defining designated work area and prohibited areas for mobile robots
  • Ensuring general safety measures for human-robot interactions

Note: AMRA-300 addresses the key considerations between mobile robot users and mobile robot vendors. However, facility constructors and decorators may also refer to these items when planning and designing smart buildings.
